Mike Wood Resigns As Chief in Manassas
Chief Mike Wood sent a letter of resignation to the media, as well as the Manassas City Council, effective January 1, 2011. In his letter, Wood cited "philosophical divide concerning fire and rescue services which continues to undermine improvements in configuration, accountability, revenue, and safety. "
“Until this division is remedied or proactively managed, I fear that the combined fire and rescue system will continue to possess significant operational deficiencies and administrative inefficiencies that, in my professional view, pose detriment to our public and first responder safety,” Wood wrote.
Wood has been butting heads with several fire and rescue organizations that operate in the City of Manassas, in an attempt to consolidate fire and rescue services under one umbrella. Apparently, the controversy has recently come to a head recently. Of course, many people who worked with Wood in Fairfax know that he is no stranger to conflict and controversy.
