I just spent the better part of an hour reading the Bailey lawsuit. I don't know the plaintiff - the graphic detail of this complaint is nausiating. Honestly - I am having a difficult time understanding how this could go on, as the suit describes. I am not saying it didn't happen - I can't comprehend how it could go on for so long, at several different work locations without someone stepping in and putting a stop to it. If even 10% of the complaint is accurate, disturbing, and nauseating are accurate descriptions of the behavior of the otherwise respected members of the Department.
But, there are always at least two sides to every story, so I will withhold judgement until the rest of the story is told.
Unbelievable that we would treat one of our own this way, let alone any human being. Regardless of the "other side of the story" it's never acceptable to put someone's life in jeopardy by ignoring fire safety practices, play "pranks" that cause physical harm, mess with someone's gear or urinate in their water bottle. (Not to mention put vomit, feces and other bodily fluid trash and materials in someone's locker.)
The department doesn't need more EEO training, we need senior staff to step up and provide harsh discipline to those involved, including officers that turned a blind eye to the situation. A message needs to be sent that we are going to appropriately punish those who participate in such abhorrent behavior.
If they had fired the idiot LT and Capt. the last time they got busted harassing someone instead of a written reprimand/lack of promotion, half this harassment wouldn't have happened in the first place! Watch, they'll probably promote them both.
After reading the 27 page complaint, and after vomiting, I have a couple of suggestions that I think the county needs to consider doing.
Caldwell (my daddy is an attorney) Clarke- just plain out fire this loud mouth bully.I wonder what his wife will think of the allegations?
Jay Iacone- Fire him too. His mouth has gotten him in trouble so many times before, when will the fire department learn?
Tim Young- this low life needs to be fired also, words don't even describe this pos.
Vitor Rocha and Mark Nash- demote back to a non supervisory position, and never promote again.
There is not a jury in the world that is going to believe that all of these allegations are fabricated. These pieces of $*** have not only humiliated this young lady, but have left a black eye on the department that will take years to heal. They are not worthy of being firefighters, firefighters don't treat people in this manner. This is the most disgusting thing I have heard or read in my 30 years in the department. I am truly embarrassed.
This former employee's medical disability was tacked directly to an on-the-job action she was directed to take in order to help the IAFF make a goofy video on hazmat response. The IAFF, Local 2068, its leadership, and those who participated in the development of the video should be the ones paying out of pocket for the disability retirement...not the taxpayers. However, because that video had the blanket of the IAFF covering it, we condoned the behavior...and therefore own the behavior. Not to mention that the BC in charge of the hazmat "program" (such that it is), also teaches for the IAFF on these hokey-pokey "hazmat for dopes" classes. Conflict of interest?
These things all have layers...and they run up the line from blue shirts to white shirts. Peel away the layers and you'll see the real culprits. They're the same people you would say are "great guys" and our "most experienced" members. What a sham.
Chief Mastin and Chief Caussin,
Here is a hypothetical question for you two; If a person misrepresents the facts, lies, commits purgery, etc. during a deposition does that affect the credibilty of their testimony in future court cases and their ability to be an effective leader in an organization?
I am guessing the courts won't buy the response HR got when they asked why the FD maintains dual promotional lists for Captain II and BC.
HR: Why do you maintain dual promotional lists for for Captain II and BC?
FC and AC: That's the way we do things.
HR: That's against the law.
FC and AC: That's the way we've always done it.
I guess the BOS will finally see what the FC and AC are really about; lies, threats, and intimidation!

Most of this harassment occurred at FS 30 home of the Deputy Chief who answers to AC Caussin who answers to Chief Mastin. Oh, and FS 30 also houses the Providence District Supervisors office.......hmmm, gonna need a pretty big broom to sweep this one under the rug!
I lived that for years...I wanted exceptance and brother hood instead I was made to look dumb and wasn't accepted in the fire service and shame on EEO in HR...they also turned their backs....it's not over and most of us will be coming forward because were sick of this crap.
BC Brinkley should be gone too...pack your bags!!! Maybe you all should go in on some property in hell...cause thats where your going....Bravo to these women & men that aren't taking this anymore.

I'm not sure that I understand how all of these people are responsible for the details included in this lawsuit. You are entitled to your opinion - but it seems like you are naming people that you have some sort of axe to grind with.

I have been detailed enough to see what was or has been going on. Open your Big Eye. Just like the other's notes were made and placed in a secure place. I don't have a problem with them just how they treat people that don't live up to their personal standards but meet the departments....take off the patch and if you don't like the truth then stop posting what obviously makes you squirm.

I am not sure I understand how you can tie all of the people you list to either lawsuit. The first lawsuit mentioned Tim Young, while the second lists a number of personnel from 30, 34, and 40. The following people were not mentioned in the Bailey lawsuit.

If you are going to call them out, here, then it is your duty to make an appointment with the EEO office and file an appropriate complaint. If you don't do that, then you a just part of the problem and just using this blog to besmirch the names of personnel you may not like.

Not for nothing but the details you have read so far are ALLEGATIONS put forth by a former member that hopes to be awarded $2,000,000. These allegations are put forth with the assistence of an attorney that hopes for a large payoff and obviously paints the picture they want a jury/judge to see. This does not mean that anything in this document actually happened.
Now thanks to the fact that a jury believed what the last accuser put forth, the county is 1/4 million short. Doesn't necessarily mean that what this plaintif has to say is anything close to the truth. Having said that, Lt. Young has been proven to be a dirt bag and we and a jury would have to assume his dirt bag actions alleged in this lawsuit are probably accurate.
Interesting list of names...and there is only one person in the Department who has a common tie with each of them. I worked around you then, and I work around you now, and you were never treated unfairly. You were simply asked to do what everyone else on your shift(s) could do...and you couldn't. Countless hours were spent coaching, teaching, training, and we all had to deal with it because you could not muster enough strength to do the most basic tasks of our jobs. Climbing ladders, humping hose, swinging an axe .... you simply couldn't do it, and every one of those officers worked with you...not against you...to try to bring you up to at least the bottom rung. Instead, you knew you couldn't hack it so you ran to the special interest groups and the EEO Officer and dragged an entire shift or two through an exercise in futility that put an OARS roster out of service so we could kumbaya with you.
Now, you're a medic and work at the slowest station in the slowest battalion and for the safety of the citizens and your co-workers, that's the best place you can fester until you pack your bags and go start a cancer somewhere else.
You should have been canned 10 years ago but for the efforts of some buffoons (now long retired) who place diversity over merit in this job and managed to drag some good people through the mud so you can hide out and spend more time on hair, make-up and fingernails than on PT and doing your J-O-B.
The post from Anonymous on 5/30 @ 1204 is right on! I was a part of that kumbaya session many years ago. Never been a part of something like that before and haven't since. You sat with the entire shift and an EEO counselor as we jointly came to the conculsion that nobody was out to get you and every participant of that meeting agreed to work with you (side-by-side) towards a common goal - completion of your FF probationary period. It was you that broke the promise and went to the BMT just minutes after that meeting requesting to be transferred - stating that you couldn't work with the folks that just promised to do everything in their power to make you successful. Riding and detail rotations were changed to accomodate your training and success. You enjoyed full backing of the AC, DFC, BMT, shift officers, and shift members - yet you chose to continue down your pathetic path of self entitlement instead of learning how to do the JOB and work with your fellow shift mates. Stay hidden and enjoy the remaining 15 years in what will surely be a stellar career.

Just a correcton, the video was shot for the IAFC........ as in the International Association of Fire Chiefs, not IAFF.
There's a reason the classes are protected. Same reason manatees and snail darters are protected...because they can't compete on a level playing field. One standard for the job. Meet it or beat it.
I agree with the posting of the recent names( I worked around them) and whomever are calling out a certain female should be ashamed of yourself. She hasn't even mentioned suing when approached but with the evidence she has would bring the rest of the idiots bagging for mercy in the court room.

You have an obvious misunderstanding of "protected class." Its not that minorities or others can't comptet, as the fire department is NOT rocket science, it's that they are and ahve been denied the opportunity for so long, the bigots were forced to allow minorities. Do you think the US Military is a sham and a joke of an organization? They seem to have been able to recruit from all population groups quite successfully. Whats the problem with tne FD? Are you so arrogant to believe that the FD is so much harder to comprehend than the many specialties of the Miliary? Read and smarten up on policy and HR before you show how ignorant you truly are.
The report makes Clarke and Iacone look like absolute trash - racist woman-haters who shouldn't be employed in a public service position where they are responsible for helping others. If even 10% of these statements are true, they deserve to be fired.

You are correct in your assumptions. They are both loud mouthed spoiled brats and everyone around them knows that.Why Iacone still has a job is anybodys guess. How many time can you get yourself in trouble for doing the same type things? And for Clarke,egotistical loud mouthed bully.But I think they will both get what they deserve this time. Oh, and for Young, everyone has always known that he's trash.

Well, you certainly make some stereotyping judgments and assessments, don't you? Indeed, though, it validates that we are discussing the same person. Thank you for playing into our hands so easily. If her evidence is so strong, then she should put up or shut up. The only person "bagging" for mercy, were a lawsuit to be initiated, would be the claimant when the REST of the TRUTH is told. Remember, there are three sides to every story: his, hers, and the TRUTH. And, the truth will set you free. Honestly, there would be no "beggars" on that list of names. Just folks who would laugh all the way through the proceedings. If you think for a second that there wasn't an investigation conducted 10 years ago, then you are as equal a buffoon as those who helped the slacker stay employed.
How come no one can admit they just can't hack it when they can't hack it? It's always someone else's fault.
