A male firefighter has come forward with new allegations of sexual harassment against Jay Iacone that are said to have occurred in 2000. The firefighter making the allegations, George H. Samartino, states he filed a complaint about the harassment to the FRD Internal Affairs Division. Samartino further states that he "received a disturbing call from then-Deputy Chief Ron Mastin. Chief Mastin told me to drop my complaint against Iacone. I was intimidated and shocked by this phone call".

When will you be HONEST and admit to the atrocities you have committed? You have disciplined many people and terminated others, in the name of COVER UP. You're a joke and even bigger coward. I guess it's time for the kooks to start coming out of the woodwork. Noone should ever have to tolerate any sexual harassment of any kind. But this guy takes the cake. His work environment is still so hostile? If the incidents were that bad, then surely he has them documented and can name times,dates, places, people present. I guess he thinks he due a monetary award also.I don't doubt that most of these alledged episodes happened with Ms. Bailey, but this looks like a band wagon jumper to me.It really hurts the credibilty of the legimate plaintiffs.
I bet he does have documentation...and I sincerely doubt he's in it for any money.
Have you people ever heard the phrase "LET IT GO!" You prior posters need to start worrying about your families and retirement and stop beating the same old drum about something that happened, or to be more accurate, "allegedly" happened 10 years ago....
You goose eggs worry about this like it really matters and affects you and don't even try to convince me it does. I can vouch for George, the incident happened while I worked at FS 13 with him.
Chief Caussin you are just as guilty as Chief Mastin. I remember the sexist,racist diatribes you spouted when you were a field Captain. As a member of the Progressives, I will do my best to ensure you will never be the Fire Chief.

Let me assure you and all of our readers that John Caussin has NO chance, no chance at all in becoming the next Fire Chief. He may think and say otherwise but it is a FACT that John Caussin will not be the next Fire Chief. If he wants to be a Fire Chief somewhere else he needs to leave Fairfax now! None of the employee groups or union will endorse him.
This is a prime example why this county needs to hire from the outside! The last Chief the county hired from the outside put us on the map! The board is so scared to have some one that will introduce change. I can’t believe our people are the most qualified for that position, look outside the box and accept other outside the system can help us become a more progressive department and bring new ideas. The department needs support of their leaders and someone that wants to truly help the department move into a new direction......Is that wrong? Why is the board so scared to commit to that? Not every department head in the county has come within Fairfax County.....why is the Fire Department different?
I just would like everyone to know that this has been my only post on this website. I don't believe in posting or engaging with people who post and can't sign their own name to what they write. WELLFIT Captain or TRKSRUL stand up and sign your real name and leave me out of it. Mr. Big Eye this website loses credibility because people just spout off at the mouth and hide behind "Anonymous" or even worse make it look like someone else wrote.

I don't think anyone was trying to pretend to be Dennis Kotecki, just a coincidence that hit close to home for Dennis... I think we need to take most of these postings and handle names with a grain of salt?
Unfit Captain (and there are many!)
Anyone who knows George well enough, knows that the incidents at 13 and his then Captain disturbed him pretty badly. I can't vouch for what actually occured because I wasn't there, but I do recall it was ugly and the shift as a whole was party to the investigation.
I can imagine George read the now infamous 27-page document and said "Where the hell is disclosure of my issue of sexual harassment with the named Captain in question". Not that he felt left out, but perhaps the Attorney that has beaten Fairfax numerous times should in-fact know -they haven't been totally forth coming. Just a hunch. Good catch George, because "as a firefighter in the community (your Chief) expects you to do the right thing all the time."
I think what is needed is a new direction in this department, and if elected I will make sure there are no more issues such as the one listed here.

I've known George and his family for a long time, and remember him being shaken up for a while. The best way I can describe Iacone is evil (in the most politically correct manner, as to avoid libel).
Of all people to file a sexual harassment lawsuit..please..this is laughable probably the most immoral person on the planet. Were you really hurt by Capt Iacones actions or are you just looking to make a buck 11 years later? If so why did you wait 11 years to take this to a lawyer? Seeing a opportunity to cash in while the county is fighting and loosing the other cases? What a joke

Samartino allegations do not seem to be financially driven. Although I can't speak for him, it would appear that this is motivated by the utter worthlessness of our "leadership" and the two recent sexual harassment lawsuits prove to be a catalyst to possibly generate changes.
To the people that are having a difficult time understanding what is written there's no law suit or money involved on my part .All I want are answers why is Jay Iacone still with the department working as a Captain also filling in Chief positions ? Also question for the Chief what happen to a zero tolerance involving sexual harassment ? The right thing should have been done 11 years ago .
Well then maybe you should ask the chief personaly, instead of using a public forum. If you were that concerned about it and your life in the station is so hostile, then why have you waited so long to rekindle this issue?

Strayed? I guess we probably have. Moderating comments is a lot more difficult than we imagined. It became difficult to draw a line. Like any new undertaking, you get into it thinking you are going to do things one way, but then things go to hell in a handbasket. People are critical, no matter what you do. We were criticized for deleting comments, accused of censorship. We had to step back from our initial position, and modify it as conditions changed. Now we are a lot more liberal with what we allow - people who comment on this site are responsible for their words, which do not necessarily reflect the views of the Big Eye.
Hopefully our readers can appreciate the difficulty with moderating comments. If not - they are welcome to start their own blog and manage it the way they see fit.....which of course, will be criticized by readers, regardless of how they handle things.
